We did it again!

Hello Brothers,
I have more excited news, this past semester Beta received a 3.3 G.P.A. This is the highest one on campus and has been for 5 semesters now. Additionally for our achievements I was pleased to accept the Virginia Tech award for chapter excellence in grades. This is the second time we have one this award, the first time being the previous convention, the 167th in Toronto.

Eta Alpha Chapter

Academic Assistance Plan
Pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter XIII of the Code of Beta Theta Pi, an academic assistance plan is hereby created for the Eta Alpha Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, with the purpose of establishing Minimum Member Scholastic Requirements in accordance of the Active Brother Code of this Chapter.
The duties herein will be vested in the Scholarship Chairman, and when applicable, other officers of this Chapter.
Article I: Criteria Requiring Enrollment
Chapter XIII of the Code of Beta Theta Pi, Section 3 states:
“Each chapter should strive to maintain a chapter average equal to or exceeding the local All Men’s Average… Any member who does not maintain the required average shall be required to enroll in an academic assistance program established by the chapter.”
The Active Brother Code states in the Section, Grades:
“1. An active brother will have a cumulative G.P.A., based on the previous semester’s grades, of 2.7 or higher.
A. To be considered in compliance with grades an Active Brother’s previous semester G.P.A. must be equal to or higher than the Chapter average of 2.5.”
I. Criterion 1:
a. A GPA from the previous semester is below the All Men’s Average of Loyola Marymount University
II. Criterion 2:
a. A Brother is in violation of the Active Brother Code.
III. Criterion 3:
a. A GPA below a 3.0
IV. Fulfilling the requirements of this plan will remedy Active Brother Code violations.
V. Failure to comply shall result in immediate καί Committee referral for further sanctioning.
Article II: Incentives
I. Cultivation of the Intellect Award
a. Brothers achieving above a 3.7 shall receive a dues discount of $50
b. Brothers achieving between a 3.5 and 3.69 shall receive a dues discount of $25
II. Most Improved GPA Award
a. The individual with the most improved GPA in consecutive semesters will be rewarded with a $20 gift certificate towards the restaurant/store of their choice.
Article III: Sanctions
Brothers who qualify for academic improvement enrollment must complete the following:
I. Academic Counseling:
a. Brothers who qualify shall be notified by the Scholarship Chairman, at which time the Brother in question shall be enrolled in a Personal Academic Improvement Plan
II. A Personal Academic Improvement Plan (hereinafter PAIP). shall consist of:
a. Personal Academic Calendar:
i. The Brother in question must create a calendar of academic assignments and deadlines. In addition to university and class specific mandated deadlines, deadlines to satisfy the requirements of completion as listed below in Article III, subsection III must be listed and completed on time. If deadlines are not completed, the Brother in question becomes subject to penalties as enumerated in Article I, subsection V.
b. Progress Reports:
i. Progress Reports shall be filled out following midterm exams or papers by the entirety of the Brother in question’s Professors.
ii. Progress reports, once completed in the time frame outlined by the Brothers’ PAIP, shall determine the areas of focus for the PAIP.
III. Requirements of Completion:
a. Assigned Academic Credits
i. GPA 3.0-All Men’s Average: 2 Credits
ii. GPA 2.7-3.0: 5 Credits
iii. GPA 2.5-2.7: 8 Credits
iv. GPA 2.25-2.7: 10 Credits
v. GPA 2-2.25: 12 Credits
b. One Academic Credit equals:
i. One hour of tutoring at the Learning Resource Center in a subject, which the Brother in question as determined by the Progress Reports, is in need of assistance.
(or)
ii. One Study Hour
(or)
iii. Three documented visits to a current professor’s office hours
(or)
iv. Creation of Calendar required herewith
c. One Study Hour is defined by the Scholarship Chairman, and shall be in conjunction with pledge study hours, the Brother in question’s schedule permitting. Accommodations by the Scholarship Chairman may be made on an individual basis.

With the intention of maintaining the highest possible standard of scholastic achievement among the members of our colony, and to be able to identify members in need of academic assistance, we desire to obtain a report on the progress of the member listed below. Request of this information is made in the belief that it is to the advantage of both the fraternity and the institution to have members of our organization cooperate with instructors and professors in a conscientious effort to promote better scholarship. Your assistance in completing the information below in a timely manner will be greatly appreciated. All information furnished by you will be held in the strictest of confidence, being known only to persons directly concerned and those elected to serve on the Executive Board, specifically the Scholarship Chairman.
